Midsommar

IPA

ABV: 6.2%

The next beer in our Public Domain series, featuring the art work of Jules Breton. The painting the Feast of Saint John can be seen at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and celebrates the summer solstice (or as nordic cultures call it, Midsommar!). The beer is creamy, orange hued hazy IPA brewed with heavy doses of oats. Pleasant bitterness accompanied by notes of passion fruit, peach, tangerine, and mild grapefruit.

The Feast of Saint John Jules Breton
1875 c. The Philadelphia Museum of Art

Reminiscent of ancient Midsommar pagan rituals, Saint John’s Eve celebrated both the birth of the Saint and the summer solstice. As a naturalist painter, Breton romanticized rural life, emphasizing its simplicity, vitality, and strong communal bonds. The painting served as an idyllic escape from the social & political upheavals of nineteenth century France. This dusky twilight, with its carefree fun and warmth, has us dreaming of a similar escape.
